DANIELS STORY
Daniel was born on 9th October 1993, his love of the dogs started very early, as soon as he could walk,
he would wander out to the kennels, kissing the dogs, and sharing their water! Daniel would lap the water from the bowls with
them! At just 1yr old, he would take his specially made broom, with him, to help sweep the kennels. At 18 months old, he had
his first taste of handling, and practiced with our Veteran bitch the art of running away and back, and telling her to stand.Daniel
entered his 1st Exemption show at 3 years old, in the child handling class, and was absolutely delighted to get a yellow rosette,
which he proudly wore for days! At 5 years old, Daniel desperately wanted to handle at the proper shows, but was told he had
to wait until he was 6. Frustrated at the prospect, Daniel accompanied us at every show we attended, and would insist he had
a little go, after the judging finished. We let him practice with an older veteran bitch Bilnetts inspiration, but he wanted
to try with her daughter Bilnetts Orianna, so the story began, Daniel then aged 6, entered Junior Handling Classes, qualifying
for Richmond Semi-Finals 2000. A week before the semi-finals, Orianna came into season! so, was unable to compete with Daniel
at the semi-finals, Daniel was devastated, but it was him, who had qualified, so he was still able to compete with another
dog, as long as it was entered at that show. Bilnetts Our Man Flint was entered, he was a male, so a lot bigger than his sister
Orianna, Daniel practiced with Flint at home, but as he had never been handled by Daniel before, we kept our fingers crossed,
he would behave in the ring! The class was called, and Daniel proudly walked into the ring, barely being able to see over
the top of him, and to adjust his outside leg, he had to do from underneath, as his arms were not long enough to adjust the
normal way!! We watched with baited breath, as Daniel & Flint performed, the ringside was amazed, as were we, at this
6 year old boy, did every maneuver the judge asked, even changing sides on the move, going past the judge, this was a difficult
task for Daniel, but he mastered it, and it looked as though, both he and the dog, were very experienced together!
The rapturous applause almost lifted the roof of the Marquee as the judge pointed to Daniel to take 1st
Place! A photographer managed to capture this photo, as it had sunk in to Daniel, that he had Won!
